The Challenge

Like many other major organisations this Australian bank sought to improve how Enterprise Architecture was used to ensure alignment between IT and Business stakeholders. This enterprise had a myriad of approaches to delivery of strategic blueprints and roadmaps and invariably the content and approach for each roadmap reflected the preferences of those involved in its delivery. It seemed that each new blueprint would have a different format and these were not resonating with the business stakeholders, thus were failing to drive the necessary discussion and common understanding of system capability and investment needs.

Our Solution

We were engaged to lead an internal program to standardise the roadmap delivery approach. We worked with our clients business and technology stakeholders to identify the needs and the value proposition for the architecture blueprints – focusing on those viewpoints that would ensure their ongoing utilisation amongst the business and technology communities. We then rationalised the roadmap approach and injected best practices for business roadmap (blueprint) delivery. We also implemented a standard engagement process to ensure the consistent delivery of quality roadmap outcomes irrespective of who in the bank would deliver these.

Their Outcome

This major bank now enjoys a standard approach to business / IT roadmap delivery. This has fostered a consistent understanding amongst Business and Technology stakeholders of the capabilities, supporting systems and investment roadmap required to support strategic business goals business. Additionally, the effort in roadmap delivery has been substantially reduced.
